View OriginalChainThink report, December 24: According to CNBC, the Trump administration has imposed visa bans on Thierry Breton, the former European Commissioner and principal architect behind the Digital Services Act (DSA), as well as four anti-disinformation activists, accusing them of censoring U.S. social media platforms.
In a statement, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said: "The Department of State is taking decisive action against five individuals who have systematically pressured U.S. platforms to censor, deplatform, and suppress American viewpoints they oppose. These radical actors and weaponized non-governmental organizations are advancing foreign government censorship and suppression—always targeting American speakers and American companies. Their entry into the United States could therefore result in serious negative diplomatic consequences."
Reportedly, Breton served as European Commissioner from 2019 to 2024. This move stems from Breton’s 2024 threat to enforce the Digital Services Act (DSA) against Elon Musk following an unfiltered interview with Donald Trump on X, further intensifying transatlantic tensions over digital regulation and free expression.
