ChainThink News, December 13: According to a report by The Wall Street Journal, President Trump stated on Friday that Kevin Warsh has risen to the top of his shortlist for the next Federal Reserve Chair, though other candidates remain in contention. Warsh, previously viewed as a contender but not the frontrunner—having served as a Fed Governor—has evidently gained further favor following his meeting with Trump on Wednesday.

"Yes, I think he is," Trump told media outlets in an interview released Friday afternoon when asked whether Warsh was at the top of the list. Speaking about Kevin Hassett, the National Economic Council Director and a previously favored candidate widely anticipated by markets, Trump said: "I think both Kevins are great." He added, "I believe there are several other outstanding candidates as well."

Hassett had earlier emerged as the leading contender. In public appearances, when questioned about his potential succession, he maintained caution, stating only that he would accept the role if invited. On Thursday, Democratic Senator Elizabeth Warren from Massachusetts told CNBC she fears Trump may appoint a "puppet" Fed Chair to carry out his will.

In addition to reinforcing the likelihood of Warsh securing the position, Trump reiterated his longstanding view that the Federal Reserve Chair should consult the President on interest rate decisions—a move that would upend the Fed's long-standing tradition of independence.
